Peru is an amazing country to visit. So much to see, and all so different. The country exhales history, culture, nature and vitality. In how many countries can such a vibrant and exciting modern life, combining the traditional and the fashionable, be seen alongside an incredible background of ancient civilizations whose relics are still scattered almost everywhere?

Naturally Machu Picchu and Cuzco are the main attractions, and a first-time visitor will rarely wish to miss these. Our circuits that feature these are of course our most popular. But Peru really does have many other stunning sights to see, such as the relatively close-by Amazon.

The first of the Amazon's natural products to be discovered by the outside world was quinine, an antidote to malaria. Obtained from the cinchona tree native to Peru and Ecuador, for many years this was a closely-guarded monopoly of the Spanish empire until the English botanist Richard Spruce succeeded in smuggling out seeds in the 1860s.
